A downloadable game for Windows

Embark on an exhilarating journey into the heart of classic arcade action with Fiber-Type, a lovingly crafted fangame inspired by the legendary R-Type series! Immerse yourself in an experience that pays homage to the iconic gameplay and captivating visuals of the original, while introducing a new custom level never seen before!

Story

Your objective is to progress by flying through space while shooting or avoiding the different enemies that will try to kill you before you reach the end of the level. If you survive all the different obstacles, there will be a final fight against a boss enemy that will make things difficult for you.

How to play

The spaceship movement is controlled using the arrow keys, and the 'X' key is used to fire as well as to navigate through the main menu.

Cheats

Is the game too difficult? There are some cheats you can use to reach the end of the level easier. Add the "Force" device to your spaceship whenever you want, make your ship invincible, or directly teleport to one of the five checkpoints of the level!

Content

There are 5 different enemies, each one with completely different behaviors and powers. To defeat them, you can use the iconic “Force” device from the original game. In addition, different power-ups provide you with extra projectiles that will help you on your adventure. Finally, there is an area through which you will have to make your way by destroying the walls that separate you from the end of the level. Are you good enough to reach the final boss?

Academic context

This 2D video game was developed as a university project for the Video Games (VJ) subject at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB, UPC). The project aimed to implement a custom level of the classic R-Type from scratch using only C++, OpenGL, and some of the original sprites.

We hope you will enjoy this game. Give it a try!
